Liberian President Samuel K. Doe was very warm in his greeting. I had the sense he cared about his people.
On his desk was a picture of him in a round wooden frame that his children had given him.
Engraved in the wood around his image was the children's message, "Remember, Samuel K. Doe, Jesus loves you."
He loaned the ministry team I was with his personal armored car and military escort to move around the city.
Shortly after we met rebels overthrew his government, killed him and toured his butchered body around Monrovia in a wheelbarrow.
I think of him often and pray for his family.
